Submissions for Longford Draft County Development Plan to close tomorrow

Aug 9, 2021 13:08 By Shannonside News

The public has until 4 pm tomorrow to lodge their submissions to the plan.

Public submissions for the Longford Draft County Development Plan are to close tomorrow evening.

Members of the public in Longford are being urged to have their say on the plans before tomorrow’s 4pm deadline.

County Development plans set out a framework for sustainable development in the county while considering the protection of the natural and built environment.

Regulations on issues such as rezoning, climate change, tourism and infrastructure are set out for the next 6 years.

The Ardagh Preservation Society is seeking to change recommendations included in the draft plan calling for the rezoning of Ardagh House and Demesne.

Members of the community fear the damage rezoning could have on future local heritage and tourism projects.

Society Secretary Francesca Pawelczyk says it’s vital that people across Longford check the plans for their local areas:

Fears re-zoning of historic Ardagh House & Demesne could damage future tourism projects

The petition has reached over 120 signatures in less than 24 hours

Locals in Ardagh County Longford are calling for public support in order to stop the rezoning of a historic building and lands within the village.

The Ardagh Preservation Society has launched a petition following a submission by the owners of Ardagh House and Demesne to have the lands and house re-zoned from tourism to residential and agriculture respectively.

Consultants acting on behalf of the owners, Ardagh Demesne LTD have lodged the submission to the Longford Draft County Development Plan 2021-2027.

The Demesne has existed since 1703, while Ardagh House is thought to have been built during the 1730s.

Our reporter Daniel Considine has been speaking to Francesca Pawelczyk (PA-VEL-CHECK) from the Ardagh Preservation Society about the concerns locals have raised over the possible re-zoning:
