There are 4 defibrillators available to the Ardagh and Glen community.
Glen’s is located at Scoil Bhríde with two contact numbers if support is required.
Ardagh has three located at Keenan Park GAA pitch, Lyons Post Office and in St Brigid’s Church. Currently the church unit is inside the church due to a damaged box, Fr Vinny will need to be contacted for access.
Ardagh always needs and welcomes volunteers willing to be trained, do refreshers or who are already trained maybe through work or a club, in order to provide adequate community support.
An AED device is easy to use and gives audio/visual prompts, it carries out assessment of the patient and gives guidance to the first aider on what action to take and ongoing monitoring throughout the emergency. If a person goes into cardiac arrest and the chain of survival is not activated immediately, that person’s chance of survival decreases by 10 per cent for every minute that CPR and defibrillation are not being performed. If CPR is not started within 10 minutes, the chance of survival is near zero.
Don’t leave AED and CPR to someone else – get trained – the more people trained and available, the less likely you are to be called upon. If you would like training in CPR and AED use with a view to being available or if you are already trained through work or a club and you are happy to add your number on the list of emergency supports please message: Maggie on 086 893 3171.
